The Death Railway, Bridge on the River Kwai and Hellfire Pass, Thailand

Situated west of Bangkok in Thailand (around a four hour drive), this is the Death Railway, on the border of Thailand and Myanmar (formerly Burma), which the Japanese had built by prisoners of war during World War II. Also Hellfire Pass, where prisoners of war were building the railway in extreme heat through mountain sides. Also on here is the Bridge on the River Kwai. You can take a tour from Bangkok and see all of this in one day, plus a museum and war cemetary. Fascinating, albeit sombre tour. A long day but well worth it. One bit of advice - take plenty of water with you.
